The graph depicts the portion of the citizens aged 65 and above in between the years 1940 and 2040 in three distinct countries. At the first glance it is clear that in 1940 USA stood 1st by 9% while Japan was only 5%. However, by the end of 2040 positions changes as Japan stood 1st with 28% where USA stood last with 23%.
We can observe that USA is represented by a black line and Sweden with green. Both the nations had 9% and 7% in 1940 with a contrast of 2%, from there to 1980 they maintained a constant difference of 1%. By comparison in 2000 both nations had same proportion which is 14%. From 2000 onwards USA portion was constant until 2020 then by the end of 2040 it lasted with 22%.
Since 2020 Sweden rose up and fell down to 18% in 2020 and by the end of 2020 it stood in between both nations with 25%. On the other hand Japan was at bottom in 1940 with 5% and climbed up significantly without any fall till 2040. Japan had the highest proportion by 2040 with 27% and stood first among other two nations.
