The reading discusses that recording medical data in electronic form has some advantages. The author listed three factors to support this idea. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas uncertain and presents some evidence to refute those reasons.
First, the author mentioned that it helps reduce the cost, as it is not necessary to use papers. Besides, they occupy no space and access to them is easy from anywhere. In contrast, the speaker disclaims this idea and asserts that doctors do not throw out the papers, in other words, they keep the recording as they needed and legal policy.
Furthermore, the author points out that electronic database prevents errors and mistakes that are related to the handwriting or improper transcription of data. On the other hand, the speaker casts doubt on this issue. She explains that doctors take notes and write prescriptions by hand. Hence the problem of poor handwriting will not be ceased with this approach.
Last but not least, the passage reading proposes that it will come to aid in researching. Because they can use the data that gathered in an enormous amount and also accessibility to them is easy. On the contrary, the lecture describes the opposite view of this claim. Electronic data followed the same rules of paper data so privacy does not let other persons use them freely for the study and such patients restrict using their medical records for other utility except their treatment. As a result, the lecture rejects all those reasons.
