Summarize the points made in the lecture, be in sure in how the professor casts doubt on specific ideas made in the reading passage?
The text and the lecture provides two opposing views about why sea otter population declined along the Alaskan coast. While the passage states that there was possible explanation about how the sea otter declined, the professor casts doubt on those ideas of the reading and states that sea otters have been declined due to predation.
First, the professor challenges the idea of pollution as a cause to declined sea otter. He states that there is no evidence to find dead sea otters which were declined by pollution. Although the passage brings water samples from the area revealed increased level of chemicals as a sign that decrease the sea otters, the professor states that hypothesis of predators rings true because predators eat the sea otters, therefore, their dead cannot be found.
Second, according to the reading other sea mammals are also declining, indicating that whatever had endangered sea otters was effecting other sea mammals also. Nevertheless, the professor questions this, arguing whales become dis appeared because of human hunters. Also, the professor mentioned the whales become hunted, the process cause also the decline of other small species.
Finally, the professor rebuts the idea of population hypothesis. He states that sea otter may be declined because of their location not population. Though the reading brings at some Alaskan location population declined more than other places, the professor mentioned that orgrese cause the declined of otters. He mentioned that ogres are long enough and lives at shallow water that cause decline of otters.
