The line chart illustrates how the rate of crimes changed in burglary, car theft, and robbery in Newport city center in a period between 2003 and 2012. Overall, while the figure for the rate of burglary decreased dramatically, the number of car thefts and robberies remained unchanged.
At the starting point, the number of burglaries in 2003 was nearly 3500 incidents. After reaching a peak of approximately 3750, the figure fell significantly to above 1000 in 2008. Then it increased to roughly 1500 and remained stable till 2012.
On the contrary, from 2003 to 2005 the number of car theft incidents was at approximately 2800. It decreased 1000 in a year and got the lowest point at 2000. After that, it surpassed the number of burglaries between 2006 and 2007 and was fluctuated around 3000 incidents from 2007 to 2012. The figure for the rate of robbery was roughly 500 to 700 incidents throughout the period.
