The pie charts provided compare Yemen and Italy in terms of the proportion of three different age groups in 2000 and 2050. Overall, what stands out from these charts is that the youngest age group will experience a significant decrease in both countries, while there will be a considerable increase in populations of older ages in these two countries in 2050.
Looking at Yemen, 0 to 14 year olds accounted for the vast majority of the total population in 2000, with 50.1%, while people with the age of 60 or older were only a tiny minority, at 3.6%. However, the percentage of the youngest age group is predicted to plunge to 37.0%, whereas people who are between 15 and 59 years old will exhibit significant growth to 57.3% in 2050. The oldest age group will have a slight increase of 2.1% 50 years later.
Focusing on Italy, the largest age group consisted of 15 to 59 year olds in 2000, with 61.6%. In second place was the oldest age bracket, with just less than a quarter of the total, 24.1%. The remaining 14.3% was made of the youngest age group. In contrast, the oldest people will witness a sharp rise in proportion, with 42.3%, becoming the leading age group of the nation in 2050. On the other hand, the figure for the group with 15 to 59 years will drop drastically to 46.2%. There will also be a decline in the percentage of the youngest population to 11.5% in 2050.
