The line graph illustrates the amount of water used for agriculture, industry, and households from all over the world, while the table compares the water consumption in Brazil and the Congo in 2000.
Overall, while global water use grew considerably from 1900 to 2000 in the three categories, the amount of water used for agriculture ranked first. In addition, water consumption in Brazil was significantly higher than in the Congo.
It is clear that the majority of water use belonged to agriculture in 1900, at approximately 500km3. Next came industrial purpose, which accounted for about 100km2. Nevertheless, only under 50km3 of water was used for homes. The 1900-2000 period witnessed the most substantial increase of roughly 2500km3 in the amount of water used for agriculture. Likewise, industry stood at about 1300 km3 in 2000. Conversely, global water used for homes was the lowest among the three purposes, which was under 500km3.
Turning to the table, the population of Brazil (176 million) was just over 33 times much more than in the Congo in 2000. Also, Brazil had 26400km2 irrigated land more than in the Congo in 2000. As a result, water consumption in Brazil was under 45 times higher than in the Congo (8m3).
