summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
The reading and the lecture are both about how glasses of a building could be dangerous for wild birds? The reading states that birds cannot distinguish between air and glass so they crash with glass and harm. The author of reading feels that there are some solutions in designing buildings with glasses to prevent hurting birds. However, the lecturer challenges the claims made by the author. He is of the opinion that these solutions are not efficient and providing three strong reasons.
To begin with, the author argues that we can replace regular glass with one-way glass which is transparent only on one side so the birds can realize that it is just a barrier and not try to fly into it. On the other hand, the professor states this kind of glass reflex everything like a mirror. As birds don’t understand the mirror, if they see a reflection of the sky or a tree on glass, they try to fly through it. Consequently this sort of glass as bad as the regular ones.
Secondly, in the article, it is asserted that another solution is that architectures can use colorful lines on glasses for designing buildings. So once the birds see these lines they avoid trying to fly through them while people can watch outside through windows where there is no painting. In contrast, the lecturer rebuts this by mentioning that birds see those non-colorful segments of windows as open holes, so they try to fly through them. Besides these windows make the room dark for a person.
Finally, the reading points out that another solution is to create a magnetic field around the buildings to guide birds away. Moreover, the author notes that birds have an ability that can help them navigate in the right direction. However, the lecturer maintains an opposite opinion and mentions that even though birds have this ability, they just use it for flying very long distances. For example, they use it when they want to migrate from a cold region to a warm one before winter, otherwise they find their path with the help of their eyes and the sense of light’s brightness for short trips.
