The table given illustrates the incomes of secondary and high school teachers in 2009 in five countries, namely Australia, Denmark, Luxembourg, Japan and Korea.
Overall, teachers in Luxembourg earned the most compared to those in other four countries, while Australia’s teachers were given the lowest salaries.
The payments for teachers in Luxembourg ranked first with 80,000 for those who had just started, nearly doubling that of Denmark with 45,000. Although Japan’s teachers were only paid 34,000 at the beginning, their incomes when they had been working for 15 years and also the maximum ones came in the second position with 65,000 and 86,000, respectively. Besides, Luxembourg still headed in those two kinds of salary with 119,000 and 132,000.
Australia’s teachers earned the least in their starting payments with 28,000, compared to those of Korea, which were 30,000. However, teachers in Australia and Korea shared the same incomes after they worked for 15 years with 48,000. Turning to numbers of years to reach maximum salary, Japan headed with 37 years, less than five times as much as that of Denmark with 8 years, which was the lowest figure.
