Essay topics:

Some people believe that we have too many choices these days.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

it is argued by some that nowadays, there are too many choices for us. while it can lead to more satisfaction at the beginning, I completely agree that there are too many options in our time given that it can impose pressure on individuals and is very time consuming.

it goes without saying that having too many options can initially result into more satisfaction. this is mainly because more options will be opened up for people to choose based on their preference, talent or requirements not reluctantly or under compulsion. Academic disciplines as well as career type, for instance, are where having multiple choices can lead to satisfaction due to the fact that people can choose what pleases them or is beneficial to them. having said that, I believe more is not always better.

Firstly, too many choices would put a lot of pressure on individuals. In other words, having too many approximately equal options is mentally draining because each option must be weighed against alternatives to select the best one and yet the risk of making the wrong choice still exists. it may look satisfying at first that we face many options but as the number of choices increases people tend to feel more pressure and potentially dissatisfaction with their choices. I myself, for example, decided to buy a wireless mouse. I used an online app which offered me about 100 items. it was so irritating to choose one of them that at last, despite all the comparisons, I bought one that was not suitable for my purpose.

Another point to consider is that it would be very confusing to choose from several options. this, in turn, can sometimes result into wasting time and energy. Supermarkets, for instance, are filled with a wide variety of brands for a few products. it can confuse individuals and make them spend a great deal of time deciding which one is better while they could buy the product they have come (intend to) for at first glance and make better use of their time and energy for more important issues. In this way, having to many choices does more harm than good.

In conclusion, although it is thought that having too many choices can lead to initial satisfaction, I believe that the negative effects of this issue are more significant.
