DIAGRAM: EVOLUTION OF MODERN HORSE
The diagram presents information about the evolution of a horse lasting for millions of year. Overall, there are four recorded periods showing that the horse has become larger and the number of toes decrease to only one.
The first ancestor of the modern horse is the Eohippus, appeared 40 years ago. Its size was quite small and the hoove was the most distinct from the modern with four toes. After 10 million years, the Eohippus evolved to the Mesohippus with the larger size but the number of toes turned from 4 to 3 and the toes are thicker
The next horse in the evolution, the Merrychippus appeared 15 million years ago shared many similarities with the horse today. The short bane emerged on it back. The size was larger the previous but still smaller the modern one. However, the middle toe, which became much bigger in this period, is the hoove of horse as we see nowadays. The modern horse is the biggest and also has the longest bane.
