The graph below shows the consumption of 3 spreads from 1981 to 2007
The daily consumption of margarine, low fat and reduced spreads, butter is compared in the given graph from 1981 to 2007. Units are measured in grams.
Overall, it is evident that the consumption for margarine and butter saw a downward trend over the period, while there was an upward trend in use of low fat and reduced spreads. People consumed butter with higher amount than other spreads in the beginning of the period, but in the last of the period, the most preferred spread was low fat and reduced spreads, whereas, they had been in use from 1996.
Looking into details, as is observed, in 1981, daily consumption of butter was around 140 grams and that of margarine was under 100 grams. Then the amount of consumed butter had experienced a dramatic decline by intersecting with margarine at 100 grams, in the meantime margarine had increased by about 10 grams. After 5 years, when people started to consume low fat and reduced spreads, the consumption of margarine stood steadily at 100 grams, while the amount of butter consumption declined to 70 grams. Then both of spreads had witnessed a decrease to 40 grams (margarine), around 50 grams (butter).
Turning to the third spread, it could not be consumed over 26 years. Although it introduced in 1996, it had a significant increase in use with over 80 grams per a person. In the end of the period, the figure of low fat and reduced spreads dropped to 70 grams, however it became the most consumed spread.
