The pie charts demonstrates the proportions of five different key sources providing the American with energy in 1980 and 1990.
As can be seen from the charts, oil is the most common source of energy for the population of the USA in both two given years while the least common ones were nuclear power and hydroelectric power.
In 1980, the proportion of oil consumption was 42%, which was slightly higher than that of oil consumed in 1990 (33%). Natural gas took up 26% in 1980 and in the next ten years, the figure for this source was marginally lower, 25%.
Coal used for generating energy made up 22% of the five given sources in 1980, while the figure for this material consumed in 1990 was higher, 27%. Although hydroelectric power remained stable in those two years, both at 5%, the use of nuclear power in the generation of energy increased significantly, from 5% in 1980 to 10% in 1990.
