Although the sale of rhinoceros horns is illegal worldwide, rhinoceroses (Rhinos) are commonly poached (hunted illegally) for their horns, which can be sold for tens of thousands of dollars per kilogram. Rhino horns are so valuable that one type of rhino is already extinct because poachers killed too many of them. All rhinos may soon become extinct unless something is done to help save them. Several ideas have been suggested
The article states that rhinoceros are become extiction because of the overuse of their horns by illegal hunter and provides three ideas for supporting these species. However, the professor explains that the extinction of this kind of species is more serious and all three idea presented in the reading have weaknesses, and refutes each author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that by removing rhinoceros' horns their lives maybe protected. The professor opposes this point by saying that if we think this idea is both practical and applicable, as well as a governmet has a time and money, the survival chance of these species would be reduced dramatically. because rhinoceros use their horns not only for digging water and surging food, but also they use for protectiong their youngs and their teritory. She also states that this idea
Second, the article posits that another possible solution to reduce illegally hunting rhinoceros is educate people. In contrast, the professor says that these people, rhinoceros hunters, have strong and old ideas and believes regard to the rhinoceros hunting and it is a difficult task to change their mind.
Third, the reading says that governments could sell rhino horns legally to cut all illegally hunt. The professor casts doubt on this point by saying that this idea has unpredictable consequences. if governments sell rhino's horn in the market, more people would pay more attention to buy horns. in addition, this could increase the horn's prices in the market and more hunter therfore killing more rhino due to large and lucritive prices.
