The graph below shows the amount of electricity produced from different energy sources to supply the city of New York between 1980 and 2000.
A glance at the graph provided reveals the total consumption of electrical energy manufactured from diverse energy resources to furnish the New York city during the period between 1980 and 2000.
It is noticeable from the given information that petroleum contributed to the highest amount of electricity to the city. In addition, natural gas overtook petroleum to rank in second place.
It is interesting to note that petroleum saw a doubling in the production of energy from 350 million kw hours to above 700 million kw hours over a period. Furthermore, petroleum faced a moderate growth to 600 million kw hours in 1985, whereas it likewise declined significantly to the first point at 350 million kw hours in 1990. In addition, petroleum saw a substantial upward trend in 2000, reaching its peak at just ahead 700 million kw hours.
Looking at the manufacture of natural gas, it stabilized around 100 million kw hours from 1980 to 1985, making it rank in last place. In contrast, however, coal saw a considerable climb in the consumption over the same period. Moreover, from 1990 to 2000, the producing of natural gas saw a fivefold surge, reaching its peak of over 500 million kw hours whereas coal’s consumption plummet remarkably, making it overtake coal in 1990.
