The table below shows changes in the numbers of residents cycling to work in different areas of
the UK between 2001 and 2011
The table illustrates the transformation in the terms of proportion of the population who take bikes as the main transportation to work by comparing twelve different areas in England during a decade.
In all, the statistics of all these areas increased although the ratio can be significantly distinguished between 2001 and 2011. It is noticeable that inner London has the highest amount of people cycling to work over the period shown, followed by Outer London and Bristol. However, the same figures for Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne remained unchangeable the lowest in the meantime.
Looking at the table more precisely, in 2011, changes in the number of inner London tend to be well over its past since the percentage is calculated to be 144%. This year also saw a dramatic increment of the population in Brighton and Hove, from 3168 to 6635. Nevertheless, little changes have happened when regards to the selection of transportation for the residents in Outer London, Liverpool, and Leeds in the two separate years, as the increase amplitudes of those areas are merely under half, and the Outer London even hit a low at 45%.
