The pie charts show the proportion of the energy produced from different sources in a country between 1985 and 2003.
The pie chart illustrates the comparison between six different categories, namely natural gas, coal, hydrogen, nuclear power, oil, and so on, in terms of the proportion of energy generated from various sources in one particular country in 1985 and 2003. Overall, it is noticeable that throughout the 17-year period, oil remained the main source of energy production, followed by natural gas and nuclear power, which together with oil constitute a larger proportion of all the sources. By contrast, the other three sources, such as coal, hydrogen, and various kinds of renewable materials, are less used when producing energy.
The data indicates that oil was the most dominant source over the period of 17 years, although the proportion dropped significantly from 52% in 1985 to 39% in 2003. Similarly, nuclear power declined, but less dramatically, by only 5%. Furthermore, an appealing trend could be seen in the fact that hydrogen expenditure remained stable over a 17-year period.
On the contrary, the figure for natural gas grew markedly from 13% to 23% by 2003, surpassing that of nuclear power and becoming the second-most consumed resource in that nation after oil energy. The percentage of coal power and other renewable sources rose markedly, by 5% and 3%, respectively.
