Prevent birds from hitting the glass

Essay topics:

Prevent birds from hitting the glass

Both the lecture and the passage discuss if there will be a solution to make a change in the existing glass, which is broadly used in modern architecture, in order to avoid birds from flying into it and getting injured. The author proposes three possible solutions and believes these can prevent birds from damage. While, on the other hand, the professor disputes suggested methods and finds them ineffective. He asserts his objection and explains respectively.
First, the author highlights, one solution is to replace regular glass with one-Way glass. This way, not only people can see outside through the window, but also birds assume the glass as a barrier and won't fly into it. But the lecturer disputes the idea and claims that one-way glass serves as a mirror. He says that mirrors are as bad as regular glass since birds are not able to figure out and they still will fly into it.
Second, according to the passage, it suggested that colorful glass can be helpful replacement for regular one for prevention of damage to birds. On the contrary, the professor thinks the opening which people can see out through it, are looking like holes in birds view and they would like to cross through the holes. Maybe making the holes smaller prevent them, but instead, this reduces the light inside the room. Hence, he doesn’t count this idea as a solution.
Third and last, the author names magnetic fields as a possible solution for the mentioned issue. Despite the assertion made in the passage, the lecturer contradicts the idea and explains that birds make use of magnetic fields only in their long-distance navigation. For instance, when they are heading to a warm country from a cold one. But they don't use it for short distances. Instead, they use their eyes and lights for such a distance. Therefore, this solution also cannot be effective.
