In 1960, it seemed that very few adolescents followed vegetarian diet (only about 1%). The percentage increased steeply from 1960 until it reached a peak of 16% in 1980. Then It dipped briefly over the next 10 years. There was a moderate fluctuation for a decade from 1990. The lowest point was reached in 1996, just under 5% of young people wanted to be vegetarian. In 2000, the number rose gradually. After 2010, it has leveled off at around 10% till 2020.
Overall, there has been a significant variation in the percentage of vegie adolescents in UK over past 50 years. The trend of being vegetarian among young people in UK was most popular in 1980 and it has been stayed stable in the last decade.
