CAMBRIDGE IELTS 10 - Academic - Writing Task 1 - Test 1
The pie charts illustrate the percentages of energy consumption and the greenhouse gas emitted by this energy consumption in an average Australian family.
Generally, heating accounts for the highest usage of energy, yet the largest proportion of carbon dioxide emissions belongs to water heating.
There is a high incidence of the energy used for heating, with 42%, followed by the use of water heating, at 30%. In contrast, the figure for other appliances comprises 15%, which is twice as high as the percentage of energy used for refrigeration. Eventually, the consumption of energy for lighting and cooling experiences a downward trend, with 4% and 2%.
Simultaneously, the uses of water heating and other appliances are the main causes of the greenhouse exhaust gas, with 32% and 28% respectively. Heating, surprisingly, is only responsible for 15% of total gas emissions, this figure is approximately the same as that for refrigeration. The proportion of greenhouse gas emissions from lighting and cooling makes up 8% and 3% in turn.
