Nowadays the environment is being threatened significantly. What are the causes and consequences of this problem? Give solutions for this problem.
Environment
From before to now, the environment always undertakes an important role in every life on Earth. The environment is the natural surrounding things that help every single life exist, live, reproduce and evolve, and conceive a big and complex ecosystem and food chain. Nevertheless, environmental problem day by day has become more perceived and is considered to be the topic that environmentalists are trying to fix as the environment has been threatened by such widely known factors as deforestation, urbanization, oil spill, etc, encouraging the appearance of many strange phenomena happening, for instance, climate change, global warming, and greenhouse effects affecting nature’s balance considerably, leading to the indirect influence on human life.
Specifically, regarding the causes of environmental problems, initially, it is because we – humans have a disposition of littering indiscriminately on land, lakes, river, or even the sea, that action releases toxic emissions into the atmosphere, causing air pollution. Take some companies and businesses as surviving examples. From the past decades to some recent years, they have discharged wastes and polluted water into streams and lakes, going to lead to water pollution. As being witnessed, the second thing that should be mentioned is environmental pollution has been caused by some humans’ actions like the burning of industrial raw materials such as firewood, coal, oil, and gas. Ironically, according to research, the environmental balance has also been exerted by some natural activities like volcanoes and floods. Moreover, the indiscriminate utilization of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides in agriculture also affects dramatically to the environment and the entire ecosystem, and it could be easily seen that most the farmers, because, basically, utilizing these substances might better their products and make them immune to insects for a period, notwithstanding, it might demolish and threaten the environment significantly, including our health. Additionally, environmental pollution could exist in many different forms as air pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution, radiation pollution, etc. For each type of pollution, there are different phenomena and effects on the lives of people. And air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution are the most conducive for the causes of environmental pollution. For instance, water pollution is the phenomenon of discolored water sources, stinking smells, containing exotic and toxic substances, which are dangerous to the life of all the organisms on Earth. Air pollution is the phenomenon of strange toxins appearing, existing in the atmosphere, changing the components in the air, and adversely affecting human health. Air pollution can be caused by two sources. Due to the influence of natural phenomena such as volcanoes, forest fires, dust, the decomposition of organic substances in nature, or due to the influence of production, business, and human activities. Soil pollution is the change in the components of soil. The reason is due to the change of water sources, toxic waste underground into the soil.
When it comes to consequences, this problem could also leave many enormous consequences that we must need to cope with and repair. Firstly, clearly, environmental pollution could affect human health, leading to health deterioration and the plummet of immunity to some popular but dangerous diseases such as cancer, malaria, and jaundice. Furthermore, it thereby affects labor productivity, especially in agricultural production. Similarly, governments need to invest a lot because of trying to remedy the consequences of environmental pollution. But it is not the end, sadly, environmental pollution is also responsible for habitat degradation, causing several phenomena such as the greenhouse effect, ozone layer hole, acid rain, desertification, weakening of biodiversity, climate change, exhaustion of natural resources, etc. that all encourage humans to face against the economic crisis, poverty, running out of food and natural source of energy, just like the precipice of extinction. Moreover, the global warming that I have mentioned also causes the melting of ice, going to lead to an increase in the water level of the sea annually, which would make all of the organisms on land would have less land area for living and developing purposes. Water pollution could destroy the organisms living in the water, causing serious consequences to human life and health and the red tide phenomenon. Water pollution also leads to the lack of freshwater for residential and agricultural use, which would pollute and deplete groundwater. Soil pollution can lead to plants growing on infected soil. Since plants are a food source for humans and animals, they are also susceptible to disease.
Fortunately, there are several methods that we could take in order to protect the environment. Firstly, e need to improve their awareness of the importance of the environment, thereby becoming more mindful of their actions and reducing ones that are harmful to the environment. For example, instead of using too many chemicals and pesticides in the agriculture industry, we could take the survival struggle among species in the wild to control the diseases. Secondly, we could utilize clean energy as our major source of energy. Energy generated from wind and solar is clean and renewable and does not deplete natural resources although that investment in wind and solar needs a lot of money, so the government also needs to use money wisely. Thirdly, minimize the use of plastic bags and plastic materials because they are difficult to decompose and require a lot of raw materials to produce. Fourthly, people should give priority to using recyclable and reusable items. For example, cloth bags to buy materials instead of plastic bags, use water bottles instead of buying water bottles outside ... In addition, with the rapid development of science and technology, people can apply modern science to life such as installing friendly devices to protect the environment and save money and fuel source, for example, use solar water heaters to save electricity. In learning, students should also save paper, use paper for the right purpose, do not waste this resource because it is made of trees – one of the most useful resources in the world. We should also reuse old clothes in order to make the fabric.
In conclusion, it’s undeniable that the environment might be an obstacle that makes us handle and now it’s our biggest problem that will decide whether we might live and develop. So, we need to protect the environment and make our environment more beautiful, greener, and safer because protecting the environment is about protecting our health, as well as our future generations.
