In general, there were a noticeable decrease in the proportion of families having one person, 2 people, 3 people, 4 people, while an upward trend can be seen if we look at the figures for 5 people and 6 people. It is also clear that the figure for 2 people was the highest among six groups in 1995; however, that for 3 people was larger than for any other in 2005.
At the beginning of the period, 31% of households had 2 people, compared to only 20% with 3 people and 6% with 1 person. Over the following 10 years, The UK saw the percentage of households having one person drop to 3%. During the same period, the proportion of families having 2 people fell slightly; however, the figure for 3 people increased sharply to 35%.
In 1995, families with 4 members accounted for 18% of the total households, while the figures for 6 people and 5 people were lower, at 17% and 8%. After 10 years, the percentage of households with 4 people dropped to 17%, and that for 6 people fell to 2%. On the other hand, the proportion of families with 6 people increased considerably, reaching 13%.
