The chart gives information on the outcome of surveys conducted in an African country conveying teenagers on the principal reasons for using their phones during 2016 and 2019.
Overall, it is prominent that the main reasons for using phones and their porpotion remained unchanged throughout the period: social networks, email, digital camera and phone calls respectively.
The period between 2016 and 2019 witnessed a majority of African teenagers using their phones for social networks, accounting for approximately 50 out of 100 people surveyed. The number of people using their phone mainly for receiving and sending emails accounted for one fourth in 2016, then gradually decrease to 19% in 2016, putting this activity second place in terms of popularity. On the contrary, the trend for using phones to take pictures was upward with the figure remaining unchanged at 15% for the first two years then raised to one fifth in 2019. The least popular feature between 2016 and 2019 was making phone calls. Despite witnessing a small increase of usage from 10% to 13% from 2016 to 2017, the number of African youths using this feature dropped dramatically to 11% then 5% in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
