The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time doing housework and households in one country between 1920 and 2019.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Looking at the chart on changes in ownership of electrical equipment, we can see that the percentage of households owning a refrigerator, washing machine, dishwasher, and microwave has increased significantly over time. In 1920, less than 5% of households owned a refrigerator, but by 2019, this had increased to over 90%. Similarly, ownership of washing machines has increased from less than 20% in 1920 to over 80% in 2019. The ownership of dishwashers and microwaves has also increased from negligible levels in 1920 to around 60% and 80%, respectively, in 2019.
Moving on to the chart on the number of hours taken doing housework in families, we can see that there has been a gradual decrease in the amount of time spent on housework over time. In 1920, the average family spent close to 60 hours a week on housework, but by 2019, this had reduced to around 20 hours a week. This decrease in housework time can be attributed to the increased ownership of electrical equipment, which has made housework easier and more efficient.
