The graph indicates the different between production and consumption of energy since 1950 in US . It also estimates trends up to 2025.
In195, both production and consumption had the same initial energy units which is around 30 units. As it went up to reach 1975, production rose similarly to consumption approximately by 30 units. However , between 1975 and 2000 , there were a wide gap between the energy in the US. The US production increased with smaller value compared to US consumption which increased with higher value and more fluctuated. In order to overcome the wide gap between production and consumption, imported energy was needed.
Apart from that, projections from 2000 to 2025 shows that the gap between consumption and production is getting bigger. The consumption will increase more steeper than the production by reaching 135 units. Whereas, production will remains under 100 units.
To conclude, energy produced by US is insufficient to be consumed even when reaching 2025. So, import will continue to increase.
