The graph shows the sales cost of bananas in Japan, France, Germany and the US from 1994 to 2004.
Overall, the cost of buying bananas in Japan, the US, and Germany experienced a slight change whereas it somewhat remained unchanged in France.
In 1994, the price for buying a kilogram of bananas in Japan was recorded at almost 2 dollars, the highest price among all 4 surveyed countries. The price then peaked at an all-time high of almost 3 dollars one year later before fluctuating to reach a record low for the Japanese banana selling price of 1.6 dollars in 2001. From then on, the price steadily rose to 2.5 dollars at the end of the surveyed period.
In France and Germany, the selling cost for bananas was at 1.6 and 1.4 dollars for a kilogram respectively in 1994. Both of them underwent a similar path of slightly decreasing to roughly 1.3 dollars in 2000. Then while the price for bananas in Germany more or less remained the same throughout the rest of the surveyed period, the banana price in France fluctuated significantly before finally reaching the same price as in 1994.
On the other hand, the American banana price rose slightly from 0.9 dollars in 1994 to roughly 1.2 dollars in 1995, then leveling the same price until the year of 2004.
