The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which e result from this energy use. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given pie charts illustrate the percentage of energy consumed in an Australian household on average and the proportion of greenhouse gas emissions produced by these households due to energy use.

It is noticeable that heating was the biggest consumer of energy in an Australian residence and that water heating produced the most greenhouse gas emissions.

As shown in the first pie chart, heating consumed the highest percentage of energy, constituting 42%, followed by water heating at 30%, which was the second largest consumer. In contrast, cooling consumed the least amount of energy, with only 2%. As for the remainder, refrigeration and lighting used almost the same amount of energy as other appliances, at 11% and 15%, respectively.

The second pie chart shows that water heating was the largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 32%, which was slightly more than the emissions produced by other appliances (at 28%). Cooling was still the smallest contributor, with its emissions comprising only 3%. Similar amounts of greenhouse gas were emitted by heating and refrigeration, at 15% and 14%, respectively, while lighting produced approximately half that amount.
