The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph provides changes in energy consumption in the US from 1980 to 2018, and anticipated consumption to 2030.
It is noticeable that the US will continue to reply on fossil fuels, while nuclear and natural energy sources remain relatively unimportant.
In 1980, petrol and oil reached the highest level in energy consumption with 35 quadrillion (35q) units, the figure continued to increase significantly to approximately 40q in 2018 before being expected to reach a peak of about 47q in 2030. At the same time, starting relatively high at just over 15q and 20q respectively in 1980, and then the amount of coal and natural gas fluctuated considerably by roughly 15q between 1985 and 2018. After that, it is projected that the figure of coal will rise rapidly to just under 30q in 2030, where as the forecast for natural gas consumption will be unchanged and stop at about 27q until 2030.
On the other hand, the amount of nuclear and sustainable energy were used around 4q in the year 1980, and the data oscillated slightly by 10q over 25 years. In addition, there will be an minimal increse in consumption of nuclear and solar/wind energy at about 7q after staying constant until 2025. Conversely, hydropower energy consumed is likely to be no change to 2030.
