The pie chart illustrates the proportion of travelers visiting the US from various nations from 1988 to 1992.
Overall, the percentage of visitors from Canada and other countries decreased steadily during the period, while the figure for Chinese people increased significantly. It is also noticeable that the proportion of Canadians remained the highest over the period shown.
In all three years, a majority of Canadians visited the United States. However, there was a substantial decline in the proportion of people from Canada, from 53 per cent in 1988 to two fifths of total people visiting the US in 4 years later. Meanwhile, with just 10% of Chinese tourists in the first year, the figure for China rose dramatically to around 30% in 1990 and then grew to exactly 30% by 1992.
With regard to the remaining percentage of tourists to the US, the percentage of Mexicans traveling to the US remained relatively stable at around 25 per cent in the 4 year period, despite a fall of 5% to around one – fifth in 1990. In contrast, others travelers visiting the US experienced a gradual drop, with only 4% at the end of the period, which was one third of its figure in 1988.
