The line graph illustrates, the amount of goods transported by four various modes in UK from 1974 to 2002. Units are measured in million tonnes.
Overall, overwhelming majority of transportation done by roads and the least amount of goods traveled by pipeline over two decades in London. At the start of a period, water and rail transport services are at same level, whereas, after four years there were a gradual increase over rail by water goods service.
Regarding transportation by road was the highest among other four service with around 70 million tonnes in 1974. This figure remained relatively stable for next 20 years, when there was a significant growth pictured with near 100 million tonnes by 2002. Moreover, pipeline service was started with mere two million tonnes and rapidly climbed on above 20 million tonnes in 1982, which stayed almost stable in following years and finished with 20000million tonnes at the end of period.
On the other hand, goods transportation by rail and water was relatively stable in first four years with 40,000million tonnes. Whereas, rapid surge on water service for over ten years after slight reduction in 1998 which went up to above 60,000 tonnes in 2002. Similarly, rail service dip into below 20,000 about 20 year period, though which reached to the starting level by 2002.
