The Bar chart shows the top ten countries for production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarise the information by select the main features, and make comparisons when relevant.

The amounts of electricity generated and used by the ten highest-producing countries in 2014 are plotted on the bar graph, ranked in order of production. The numbers are in units of billion kilowatt hours (bn kWh).

The countries produced more than the amount that they consumed, except for Germany. India and Canada had the largest surplus generation, producing about 24% more than they consumed. Germany, which ranked ninth on the list, consumed about 10% more than it produced.

Among the top five countries (China, US, Russia, Japan and India) China came in first with 5398 bn kWh produced, more than the combined amount of the next two countries on the list (the US and Russia), and more than seven times the median value (about 700). Second-ranking USA produced 4099, about four times as much as either third- or fourth- ranked Russia (1057) and Japan (936). These countries produced up to 10 percent more electricity than they consumed. Russia had the smallest excess, less than 1% (1057 versus 1038). India rounded up the top five, with 871 production and 700 consumption, respectively. Note India's large excess production of 171 bn kWh.

The remaining five countries (Canada, France, Brazil, Germany, and Republic of Korea) had electricity production ranging from 620 to 485 and a narrow range in their consumption values, ranging from about 500 to 450.
