The reading and lecture both discuss if the petresaurs were capable of powered flight or not. While the reading provides three reasons to support that ptersaurs were not be able of powered flight, the professor refutes, saying that none of these claims are convincing.
Firstly, the reading avers that the metabolism of petresaurs could not support the energy that required for flight. This is because these animals considered from cold blooded animals. However, the professor argues this notion by saying that the researchers discovered from pterasaur's fossils that these animals were covered by hair as the warm blooded animals. So, the metabolism of warm blooded animals can produce enough energy to support the flight. In addition, their metabolism is so fast. As a result, pretasurs could support the powered flight.
In addition, the reading shows that these pterosaurs could not flight because they were so heavy. On the other hand, the professor questions this idea by pointing out that now we know that the anatomical feature of these animals has a hallow bones not solid one. Consequently, these animals have a light weight. Besides, this low weight is enough for pterosaurs to flip their wings.
Lastly, the article mentions that birds can jump from the ground by their legs. However, the fossils of these pterosaurs confirmed that these animals have very low backs legs and these legs could not help these animals to take off from the ground. Nevertheless, the professor contradicts this idea by explaining that birds and pterosaurs were different. In fact, birds can use their legs to jump but it is a limited push, but pterosaurs could use four limbs to take off from the ground. In addition, researchers supported that there was not any problem for ptersoures to use these four limbs to jump into the air.
