TPO45- the evidence of the existence of bees more than 200 million years ago.
The passage and lecture both discuss several arguments of the existence of bees before 200 million years a geo. The reading passage asserts that the discovery of fossil structures which are similar to bee nests support the existence of bees before 200 million years ago. Some of the skeptics hold the opposite view and support their idea by some arguments. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
Firstly, the passage argues that the oldest records related to actual bees which have been found belong to 100 million years ago that is 100 million years less than the ones founded in Arizona. On the contrary, the lecturer brings up the idea that it was required some sticky liquid to reserve the bees while no resin was found 200 million years ago to make this possible.
Secondly, the passage reading states that no flowering plants existed in that time, and due to the close relationship between the evolution of bees and flowering plants it is impossible to the bees existed before 125 million years when the flowering plants have appeared. Conversely, the lecturer underlines the fact that some early bees such as ferns and panchery existed in that period. Also, the relation between bees and flowering plants is backed to the time when the flowering plants appeared and bees' feed adapted to that situation.
Finally, the passage claims that based on the fossil structures founded there is no similarity between the spiral pattern of modern bees' nests and what was found. I fact, it is guessed that the fossil structures were not made by bees. In contrast, the lecturer dismisses the issue due to the fact that the chemical evidence reveals there are no chambers. !!
