The graph below shows the unemployment rates in the US and Japan between March 1993 and March 1999.
The line graph give information about the jobless rates in 2 countries, namely US and Canada, from March 1993 to March 1999.
As is observed, the two countries experienced contrasting trends, the unemployment rate in US fell while the figure for Japan rose. It is also noticeable that both countries had similar rates by 1998.
In March 1993, 7% of the US labour force was unemployed, which was 3 times as much as the figure for Japan at 2.8. Over the following five years, jobless rate in the US fluctuated and decreased gradually to 4.5. By contrast, the unemployment rate in Japan also fluctuated but finally increased to 4.
In March 1999, the unemployment rate for both countries was the same, reaching 4.5 each, after which both countries rates changed in different trends. Afterwards, the Japanese men power which was unemployed continued rising while the US witnessed a gradual decline.
