The pie charts compares the proportion on seven different category in US between 1966 with that of 1996. Overall it can be seen that the greatest change was in the percentage of spending patterns was cars while the lowest of all the tot of it was food.

According to the illustration in 1966, the most popular of expenses was food, representing just more than two fifth of all expenses, by 1996 it had fallen significantly to minority just 14%. At 23% cars was the second most popular subject to expenses and this figure increased dramatically to more than two fifth after thirty years to represent the largest proportion of spending patterns in 1996. Initially, expenses on the restaurant was fairly low, at only 7%. However, this figure increased dramatically over the thirty years to 14%. furthermore, only 1% of the US population's money went to purchasing computers which that had the lowest of patterns in 1966 but this category arise to 10% in 1996.

Less change was seen in the remaining three spending patterns in 1996. Expenses on the book decreased to 10%. The second category was furniture which fallen at 8% and the last petrol was 8%.
