The graphs below indicate the effect of treatment in two types of cancer in females.
Using the information in the graphs, describe and compare the situation with and without treatment for the two types of cancer.
The graphs show the difference in results between treated and untreated female patients of two kinds of cancer.
Obviously, for alimentary tract cancer, the treatment has proved the clear effect. The survival rate decreases to nearly 75% after the first year from diagnosis. From then on, the figure remains stable at around 50% from the second year to the fifth year. On the other hand, the percentage of survived patients who are not treated after one year is only about 40%, and then continues to drop and stay steady at 25% from the second year.
In regard to Lymphosarcoma, there is a significant drop of the survival rate for patients who applied treatment. The rate is approximately 60% after the first year but kept decreasing dramatically in the following years, hitting the lowest number at 0% in the fifth year. For this type of cancer, the patients without treatment have more chance to continue living. The survival rate went down to more than 40% and stay almost unchanged after five years.
In summary, the alimentary tract cancer patients should follow the treatment to increase the chance of living. Whereas, for lymphosarcoma, the patients should not join especially from the second year from diagnosis.
