Dear Sara,
I just received your mail about the difficulties that you are facing at work. I am really sorry to know that your new boss is giving you a hard time.
After I gave birth to my son last year, when I got back to work, I had a hard time too. It was not easy to deal with the changes in the organization and take care of my son at home. Sometimes, it is hard to maintain a work life balance, especially for a nursing mother. At that time, my boss was not aware of my situation at home and was quite inflexible about working from home.
However, I have learnt from my experience. All women can avail an extended maternity leave for a year or go on a sabbatical for two years. Developmental Psychologists and doctors suggest that it is crucial for a mother to attend to the child in their early years. To transition smoothly for a new mother to get back to their careers lot of companies have introduced work from home and flexible work schedules. I suggest, you talk to the Human Resources department and avail these options. Also, suggest you have a discussion with your new boss about your suggestion and explore a solution that works best for you and the boss.
I hope you find my suggestions useful. I cannot wait to come and visit the little one this summer.
Love,
Rajie
