The lecture and the article are both about Little Ice age which is a period of unusual harsh climate. The author of the reading believes that this period has some causes. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He thinks that all those theories can be disproved.
First of all, the author points out that disruption of ocean streams was one of the causes of little ice age.It is mentioned that before little ice age there was an extremely warm weather , which was a reason of melting glances. For this reason, currents of golf stream were disrupted. this point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that, climate changes were spread around the world. Moreover, disruption in golf stream was cause climate changes only near North America.
Secondly, the author contends that, volcanic activities were reason of starting little ice age, because dust from volcanos blocked sunlight. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that during the little ice age there were not enough strong volcanic eruption to cover sky and prevent sunlight.
Finally, the author states that during this period there was a small number of human, so new forests appeared. The article established that trees produce carbon dioxide which made earth cooler. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that changes in climate from carbon dioxid is extremely long process. In addition, human population recovered quickly, so they proceeded to cut down trees.
In conclusion, I would like to say that there are a lot of theories of causing the little ice age, but no one of them can be unproved.
