In agriculture use sector, the most significant amounts of water usage is allocated to Central Asia (more than three-quarters of the total water consumption of its area), followed by Africa, which accounts for 84%, South East Asia (81%) and South America also comprises a considerable proportion (71%). However, that of North America and Europe are much smaller (39% and 32%, respectively).
In industrial use sector, the water usage trend is completely reversed. Europe and North America are responsible for the highest shares of industrial water consumption, as former with 53%, while that of the latter is marginally lower (48%). There is no substantial difference between the figures in South East Asia and South America (12% and 10%).
In domestic use sector, South America is the highest among other areas (19%), whereas Central Asia and South East Asia share the same proportion of water consumed (7%).
