The table compares the distance that commuters in a European country travel on six different means of transportation in 1995 and 2005 along with the prediction of 2015.
Overall, it can be seen clearly that the bus was the most popular type of transportation in 1995 and 2005; and the least favourite was the bicycle. Meanwhile, rail is expected to rank the first out of six transit services in 2015.
In 2005, the popularity of bus slight decreased by 6 thousand miles per passengers, compared to 56 thousand miles in 1995. Rail recorded a smaller figure than the bus in both two years; and in 2005, there was a moderate increase in the average distance people travelling by rail compared to the year 1995, from 38 thousand miles to 48 thousand miles. Air, bicycle and motorbike had much fewer numbers compared to the others mentioned above, which were all below 10 thousand miles, with the furthest distance belonging to the motorbike in 1995 and air in 2005, 5 thousand miles and 8 thousand miles respectively.
In contrast, in 2015, rail is expected to be the most favorite means of transportation, with 60 thousand miles per person. bus is predicted to slightly decline by 2 thousand miles compared to the year 2005. The use of air transportation is forecasted to significantly go up to 20 thousand miles per passengers; meanwhile, bicycle and motorbike will still be almost the same as in 1995 and 2005.
