Rembrandt painting
Both the passage and the lecture discuss a painting that was attributed to a Dutch painter, -Rembrandt. The reading states that there are few details that make them believe this painting did not belong to this artist. In contrast, the lecturer finds those unacceptable, citing three reasons to reject the points in the reading.
The passage and the lecture first discuss the clothing in the painting. The author argues that although the style of the painting and the painted picture which appeared in this artist’s other works make researchers believe that the painting belongs to Rembrandt, this artist is famous for focusing on details but the clothes are inconsistent due to the fact that the painting looks like a servant but the clothes are a mix of luxury and normal. The professor, on the other hand, illustrates that the luxurious item was added a hundred years later in order to make the painting look formal.
Next, the passage and the lecture discuss lighting in the painting. The passage mentions that Rembrandt was a master of light and shadow in the paintings, with this in mind there are some errors in the painting that could have not to be done by this Artist. The lecturer points out the fact that the clothes on originals painting was different with making a change in those clothes some error appeared in the shadowing of this art piece.
Lastly, the reading and the passage discuss the panel that the painting was painted on. The reading points out that this artist always painted on a wood panel but the back of the panel proves otherwise, stating the painting was painted on several pieces glued together. However, the professor says that the original paining was in fact on a wood panel as always but the changes happened on a glued one.
All in all, the author concludes by stating these three reasons that the painting did not belong to this artist. However, the lecturer believes that Rembrandt paint this piece but the changed made everyone believes otherwise.
