The chart below shows global sales of the top five mobile phone brands between 2009 and 2013
The bar chart compares how many hand phones were shipped worldwide by the leading five phone makers from 2009 to 2013.
It is clear that Samsung and Apple witnessed dramatic increases in their sales over the period shown while Nokia saw an opposite trend. Additionally, Samsung also became the most popular brand in the year 2013.
In 2009, the number of mobile phones sold by Nokia was around 450 million units, and this figure more than doubled that of Samsung. The four years later, however, Samsung overtook Nokia with its sales reaching to the similar figure of Nokia in 2009. By contrast, Nokia experienced a substantial decrease in the number of cell phones sold to nearly 250 million units.
Turning to three remaining categories, Apple had the lowest sales just about 50 million units in 2009, but its figure was more than five times as high as that in 2013. In comparison, there was significant fall in the sales of LG to roughly 75 million units while ZTE saw a slight rise in its sales to nearly 60 million units.
