The graph shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries
The offered line graph depicts the ratio of the increasing population of the age 65 and beyond over the century in three major nations; Japan, Sweden and the USA.
In general, Sweden and the USA had a similar trend in the increasing population during the initial and termination point, however before reaching the end it had opposite movement. Japan, on the contrary, had the downfall in a population that later managed to pick up after the mid-period, and in the end, it had a dramatic increase in population.
In the initial year (1940) the population of Sweden and the USA was around 7 and 9 per cent respectively which with certain fluctuation increased to 15 and 14 per cent after forty years. Then the population stabilised in the USA and it is predicted to be at the same pace till the end of 2018. The population will then surge significantly to around 24 per cent in the end.
Whereas, in the case of the USA, the initial population was 5 per cent which had a slight downfall till 1960. Later the population stabilised and few years after 1980 the ratio then increased gradually till 2020, which will rise continuously until early 2030. After the year, the percentage skyrocketed to 25 which will have a slight increase since.
