The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and making comparisons where relevant.
The given line graph provides data on how much energy was consumed in America from 1980 to 2008 along with predictions until 2030.
At the first glance, it is clear that the trend of using different type of energy sources have been growing in the United States. However, Americans have been more inclined to use fossil fuels, especially Petrol and Oil compared to the little usages of renewable and nuclear energy.
In 1980, petrol and oil consumption stood at 35 quadrillion which was much more higher than that of coal and natural gas (with 16 and 20 quadrillion units respectively). At the same time, the eco-friendly and nuclear energy’ s utilization was relatively insignificant, standing at only 4 quadrillion units of each.
The consumption of petrol and oil fluctuated between 1980 and 1995 before rising until the time of report. This figure was predicted to continuously grow and reach a peak of 48 quadrillion in 2030. Besides, the figure of coal saw a constant increase during the whole period, it overtook natural gas in 1990 and was expected to become the second most used fuel in 2030 with over 30 quadrillion. Consumption of energy derived from natural gas has been erratic until 2015 before levelling off at about 25 quadrillion units in 2030.
While the use of solar/wind and nuclear has seen an upward trend, respectively to 5 and 7 quadrillion units, the consumption of hydropower projected to slightly decrease in the end of period, with just under 4 quadrillion.
