Methods to prevent birds from getting injured

Essay topics:

Methods to prevent birds from getting injured.

The reading and the lecture are about preventing the birds from getting injured through the glass doors or windows. The author of the reding feels that injury to birds can be prevented by making one-way see-through glass, colorful designs on glass, and by creating a magnetic field. The lecturer challenges the claims made by the author and he feels that none of these ideas can prevent from injuring birds and can be explored below.

First of all, the author of reading suggests that by tinting the glass on one side can make birds think of a barrier, they cannot see through and will not try to fly through it. How ever, the professor refutes this by saying that, the reflection seen on tinted mirrors can be of the sky or a tree, this makes birds fly through it. Moreover, the birds cannot understand the reflection made by the mirrors and will end up injuring themselves.

Next, the article mentions that painting colorful pictures or any designs like stripes over the glass makes the bird flying away from the glass, and also people can see out through those unpainted areas. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that paintings or stripes made by architects can make the birds assume that there are holes in between the paintings and will fly through it. Additionally, he says the painting will make the room darker for the people inside the building.

Finally, the author posits that creating a magnetic field will help the birds to navigate in the right direction when they fly. On the other hand, the tutor position is that the birds use this magnetic field when they fly for longer distances. For instance, when they try to travel from a colder country to warmer countries during winters. He also adds that shorter distance wouldn't affect the birds from deviating through magnetic fields, such as traveling from one side of the city to other side. In addition, he mentions that brightness will help the birds when they travel shorter distances. This clearly shows that birds can injure even after installing a magnetic field in the building.
