Internet users as percentage of population
The line graph compares the proportion of people from three different countries using Internet from 1999 to 2009.
Overall, it is clear that the number of Internet users in America, Canada and Mexico witnessed a significant increase for the most of the period. It is also notable that while the figure for Canadians using Internet was the highest, the opposite was true for Mexican users.
In 1999, about 20 percent people in USA used Internet, which was slightly higher than those in other two countries which stood at 10 percent and 5 percent respectively. Over the period of four years, the quantity of Canadian users surpassed that of American users midway through 2002, accounting for approximately 55 percent before reaching the same level at about 60 percent as the latter two years later. Meanwhile, there was a gradual rise by 35 percent in the number of users from Mexico in 2005.
From 2005 onwards, the percentage of American users continued rising before peaking at 80 percent at the end of the time surveyed. Likewise, Canada was the country with the highest number of Internet users at about nearly 100 percent while the opposite was true for Mexico where Internet users accounted for only percent of the national population.
