Productivity and Rewards
The passage suggests that the way of increasing productivity is to usher incentives and rewards to the employees. However, the speaker contradicts this mechanism by a variety of reasons.
Firstly, the reading suggests that an external driving force in the form of rewards and incentives is needed as a sense of motivation for the employees. However, the speaker clearly states that that employees detest the system and instead wanted to be respected for their hard work.
Furthermore, the author mentions that rewards improve productivity by improving their attitude and motivation and confidence. In contrast, the speaker mentions that people feel that they are punished and are being manipulated by the greed of rewards.
In addition, the author says that it is proven by books that the rewarding mechanism will help improve productivity whereas, the speaker mentions that there is no controlled study that justifies the author’s claim. On the contrary, the speaker strengthens his side by saying that there are studies that show that rewards are counterproductive.
Lastly, the author says that structuring of rewards will guarantee optimal results. Structuring them by being accessible to employees. However, the speaker suggests that the reward system will cause the relationship between the worker and the supervisor to be detrimental by suggesting a suitable example that the worker will try to shy away the mistakes in lust of the rewards.
