The table presents the number of waste products in six different countries in the years 1980, 1990, and 2000.
Overall speaking, Americans produced much more waste than any other country in the past, which was hundreds of times higher than the other five countries. On the contrary, the amount of waste produced by Ireland was the smallest and recorded a slight increase during the past 20 years.
Specifically, the waste produced by residents in the US in 1980 was almost 200 times larger than that in Portugal, which was only 9.9 million tonnes, and rose about 1000 million tonnes every 10 years from 1980 to 2000. Japanese produced the second-highest amount of waste annually of the six countries, however, the increase in the amount of the waste in the 1990s was slower than that in the 1980s. The amount of waste produced in Poland was only several millions of tonnes in 1980 and saw soft growth in the following 20 years.
In contrast, waste production in Korea decreased from 31 million tonnes to 19 million tonnes from 1990 to 2000, though there was no record in 1980. And the waste produced in Portugal remained virtually unchanged at the point of the three years. Ireland, as the least waste production country, produced only 0.2 million tonnes in 1980 and the amount increased slightly in 2000.
