Eco-certification
The reading and lecture are both about eco-certification. The author of reading feels that there are some reasons that United States wood companies do not do eco-certification for their products in their companies by conserving products and recycling materials. The lecturer challenges the claims made by author. He is of opinion that despite what people say about eco-certified wood companies there are some good reasons for the people to seek eco-certification.
First, the author argues that American consumer are exposed to a lot of advertising so they will not pay attention or see the value of it.The article mentions that there are many mediocre products are labels as new or improved, American people do not trust the advertising in general. this specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that consumer in United States can distinguish between really beneficial advertising and the unreal ones. Additionally, he says that the eco-certified wood companies and products will be favourable to them if it is trust worthy.
Secondly, the writer suggests that eco-certified wood will be expensive. In the article, it is said that wood companies pay money to get their products certified by a certification agency. this extra money will passed to consumer on the other hand, the American people get motivated by money, and hence they choose the uncertified products. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that it is right that American consumer care a lot about prise, but the decision for prise is only if one products is differ a lot in prise than other. He elaborates on this by bringing up the point that if the difference in the prise is only less than a five percent then American consumer will choose the eco-factor.
Finally, the author posits that people in United States always follow the development, but this is not convincing. Moreover, the article stated that doing eco-certified products in United States wood company would work only if these products aboard and this is not happening, because most of Unites States products is for American people. In contrast, the lecturer's position is that united states companies pay attention to the wood products internationally it is not about consumer but about competition. He notes that american people are interested in eco-certified products, and if united stated less aware of that the other foreign companies will produce these eco-certified products that american companies do not.
