Asteroids are large space objects made of rock and ice. There are hundreds of thousands of asteroids in our solar system. Though we often hear ideas about establishing colonies of humans to live and work on our Moon or our neighboring planet, Mars, some think that sending people to an asteroid would actually be the best colonization option for a number of reasons.
he article states that sending people to an asteroid is the best choice among the ideas living on another planet and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that the concept in which sending people to asteroids is impractical and has a severe downside. The professor refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that the asteroids have lower gravity, thereby landing and taking off the spacecraft is more comfortable than another planet. the professor refutes this point by saying that the low gravity has a particular risk in both mussels and bones mass; it makes loosen the mussels and bones' tissue structures. Although low gravity is suitable in the short term, it is dangerous and leads to a health problem in a long time.
Second, the article claims that mining in the asteroids would be extremely profitable and a perfect source of these raw materials. However, the professor contends that the availability of minerals in the asteroids is not the only factor in assessing elements and precious metals profitability. An additional aspect, especially the cost of conveying such material, is essential; therefore, mining would be unprofitable if the quantity of mining yields is not large enough.
Third, the reading avers that the colonization of asteroids is a good option since it would be elementary to reach. The lecturer opposes this point by saying that the asteroids come close to earth's orbit. However, it is easy to get incoming, the asteroids stay not close to earth's rotation and go far away close to the planet such as Mars. by doing so, reaching to the asteroids would be challenging.
