Chevalier

Essay topics:

Chevalier

The author states in the reading that the memoir of Chevalier's life adventures is not accurate and he mentioned some additional parts to make it more fascinating. The lecturer, however, rebuts this statement by saying that all his writings are correct and they are counted as a reliable source of a historical source.
First of all, the author contends that Chevalier seemed to be so wealthy but on the other hand he used to borrow cash from others and these do not match together. The lecturer casts doubts on this by asserting that Chevalier was really rich but in the past, it took so much time to sell a product and to gain money. He argues that in the time he was waiting for cash arrivement he needed to borrow money to pay them back later.
Secondly, the author suggests that Chevalier mentioned all his dialogues with Voltaire. But the conversation was taken place so many times ago and as a result, the writing could not be true and accurate. The lecturer refutes this by saying that Chevalier used to take notes and kept them all and utilized them in the journal.
Finally, the writer believes that Chevalier could not escape the jail on his own and he needed to get help from other jailers who bribed him to get free. In contrast, the lecturer contends that other jailers had so many friends rather than Chevalier but they could not get away from the prison. In addition, according to some old vanishing documents soon after his escape, they repaired the ceiling of the prison. This indicates that it was something wrong with the ceiling that was related to the hole which he used it to run away.
